Ferro Molybdenum Lumps: Properties and Applications

The significant alloy formed by combining iron and molybdenum is ferro molybdenum lumps. It is primarily available in particle sizes ranging from 10mm to 100mm, and it comprises two major grades with a molybdenum content ranging from 60% to 75%.

This alloy, characterized by its high melting point of 1900 degrees Celsius, serves as an effective hardening agent in various applications.

Ferro Molybdenum Production

The manufacturing process of ferro molybdenum begins with the conversion of mined molybdenum into molybdenum (VI) oxide (MoO3). Then, aluminum and iron oxide are mixed with this oxide. An aluminothermic reaction reduces this mixture. After reduction, ferro molybdenum undergoes purification through electron-beam melting.

The final product is available as fine powder or small briquettes, and we conveniently package them in bags or steel drums.

Uses

Ferro molybdenum proves essential in manufacturing ferrous alloys, finding critical use in various industrial sectors. Industries select this alloy based on its molybdenum content, utilizing it in the production of military hardware, machine tools, load-bearing components, rotary drills, and refinery tubing.

Its applications extend to the automotive sector, where it contributes to the construction of cars, trucks, and trains.

Moreover, ferro molybdenum enhances stainless steel and heat-resistant steels used in diverse plant equipment and systems, including oil-refining equipment, chemical plants, synthetic fuel plants, pumps, and heat exchangers.

Additionally, manufacturers add substantial amounts of ferro molybdenum to tool steels for applications such as ball and rolling mills, large drill bits, high-speed machining components, dies, chisels, and more. This versatile alloy finds its place across various applications, each benefiting from its distinct properties.
